We all should fit circuit protection to our electric circuits but how fast will the breaker operate

once the circuit is overloaded or short circuited.  This is important when selecting the correct sized breaker for your circuit.

Note: Never fit a breaker that exceeds the working capacity of the cable in the circuit.

The graph below shows the tip times of our circuit breakers. As you can see the breaker will carry

70% of its rated capacity continuously. Once you reach 100% capacity it will trip in 100 seconds.

At 2x its rating it will trip in 5 seconds. Short circuit in 0.2 seconds.

When selecting the breaker make sure it is protecting the accessory and cable, if needed fit fast blow

fuses close to the accessory when the cable is powering other accessories.
