A common question that we are asked is how to connect a voltmeter to a battery.

Voltmeters are used as an indication of charge or capacity of charge in the battery.

Connecting the voltmeter is simple. The voltmeter will be marked with a ‘+’ and a ‘-’ symbol. These are simply connected to the battery in the same order ‘+’ to ‘+’ and ‘-’ to ‘-’. This can also be done at the fuse box or other source of the battery power. In some cases it may be easy to use the vehicle body as the ‘-’ and run only one wire ‘+’ to the battery.

Note: Always fuse any ‘+’ cable that is longer than 60cm.
